Why we started

What do you do when your friend/parent/loved one doesn’t like the taste of coffee or reacts hyper to caffeine? Well, we created Stēap in this personal quest searching for a healthy alternative for coffee and energy drinks.

Stēap is for everyone who wants a more steady intake of energy than coffee can offer. And for everyone who doesn’t like the bitter taste of coffee. And for everyone who does like coffee, but wants the great health benefits of tea as well. And, you know what, it’s for everyone who drinks tea regularly too, because Stēap is 100% natural and contains more anti-oxidants that green tea!

How did we do it?
We combined the energetic, yet soothing power of guayusa with the upifting power of guarana. Together with 100% naturally flavours like dried oranges, rose patles, hibiscus and mint, we created three tasty flavours. We thought this powerful and tasty blend had to be shared with the rest of the world.

About our ingredients

Let us tell you about guayusa and guarana, the two main ingredients in Stēap. Guayusa (gwhy-you-sa) is a super leaf almost exclusively found in the Amazonian forest of Ecuador. The leaves have stimulating properties such as caffeine and theobromine (also found in dark chocolate).

When you steep your normal green or black tea too long, it tastes bitter and unpleasant. This is caused by the bitter tannins in regular tea leaves. Guayusa however does not have any bitter tannins, resulting in a smooth and lightly sweet taste.

Guarana seeds mainly grow in Venezuela and in northern parts of Brazil. These seeds are the size of a coffee bean but contain up to 2 or 3 times more caffeine. Just like guayusa it contains theobromine and has a lot of antioxidants. Both guayusa and guarana provide an efficient release of energy.

About the source

Guayusa not only has benefits for those who drink it. There is a whole group of indigenous people called the “Kichwa” relying on it for economic reasons as well. The Kichwa have been growing and drinking guayusa for thousands of years. Guayusa has, according to ancient stories, healing properties and it provides happiness and energy.

Traditionally Kichwa communities wake up before sunrise to drink guayusa around a communal fire pit to share their stories, dreams and plan the day ahead.

Guayusa is grown by the Kichwa in biodiverse forest gardens called chacra. These gardens allow sustainable growth of guayusa without any human intervention. By drinking Stēap you are contributing to sustainable production of guayusa and fair prices for the Kichwa community.

The Stēap Effect

Energy release vs time

STĒAP

COFFEE

TEA

The combined effect of caffeine and theobromine in Stēap provides sustainable energy, focus and calmness. At the same time it doesn’t cause unpleasant peaks and dips experienced with other caffeinated drinks.

Let’s talk details

Caffeine is a well-known stimulant of the central nervous system. It increases energy and focus but can also raise heart rate and blood pressure. Too much caffeine released at the same time can therefore give an unpleasant “jittery” feeling. Unlike coffee, Stēap provides an efficient release of caffeine for pleasant and long-lasting energy.

So… Theobromine?

Theobromine is a milder stimulant compared to caffeine and instead reduces blood pressure and makes you feel more relaxed. It’s a perfect stimulant to moderate the side effects of caffeine.

Only good vibes when you drink this hibiscus rose. Fruity taste with floral notes. A perfect pick me up to start the day.

Pure green tea with a lightly sweet taste, mildly nutty and without any bitter tannins. An improved classic!

This taste of orange and mint gives a fresh kick on its own. Oh, and this one makes a great ice tea too!
